Deborah Warner is a Theatre and Opera Director. Her credits include productions for the National Theatre; English National Opera; Royal Opera House; Royal Shakespeare Company; Barbican Theatre; Opera North; L’Odeon Theatre, Paris; Theatre de Chaillot, Paris; La Monnaie Brussels; L’Opera Comique; Bavarioan State Opera; Salzburg Festival and the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. She has directed across the classical repertoire, including the theatre productions of “King Lear” (French Critic’s Best Foreign Production), “Mother Courage and her Children” (National Theatre) and “Hedda Gabler” (Laurence Olivier Awards for Direction and Production), opera productions include “Dido and Aeneas” conducted by William Christie (Vienna Festival, L’Opera Comique, Paris, Netherlands Opera) and “Messiah” (ENO), film and television productions such as “The Waste Land” (Un Certain Regard, Cannes Film Festival) and “St. John Passion” (BBC). Her work has toured extensively throughout Europe and she has worked on Broadway as well as in London’s West End. Her three installation pieces, “The St. Pancras Project”, “The Tower Project” and “The Angel Project” – commissioned and produced by LIFT – were developed by the Perth International Arts Festival, Australia and the Lincoln Center Festival, NYC.
She is well known for her work with her long time collaborator, actress Fiona Shaw. Their production of T.S.Eliot’s “The Wasteland” has toured the world.
She was awarded Officier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 2000, made CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2006 and is Associate Artist of the Barbican Theatre, London.
